Wait, in the last story, did someone leave actual "YOU SHALL BURN IN HELL" pamphlets? If so, who? And can they please just like, go all over the country, giving those pamphlets to racist assholes? And outwardly sexist/homophobic/transphobic/otherwise shitty people?

I have encountered some pretty blatant racism in DC — when I was trying to collect signatures to get DC the vote, a man told me he didn't want to put the "wrong kind of people" in office...hmmm — but overall, I do think the diversity of the city helps. It at least helps people recognize where people are from, or at

Right — I feel like the whole "black people don't tip well" stereotype comes from a combo of a) servers treating all-black tables TERRIBLY, then assuming that when they get a poor tip in response, it's because of some reason other than the terrible service (and probably palpable racism that accompanied it) and b) good

Every time I see the skyline though, I feel pretty happy.

Sometimes, DC makes itself hard to love, but you've gotta push through.

Wait so the ice cubes are just water? I thought "artisnal" ice cubes would be like, infused with herbs and shit you could taste.

So art should be censored based on its quality? We should also ban the publishing of any more vampire books, reality tv, and all apolitical performance art? I'm not into any of those, but just don't patronize the art you don't like. How hard is that?

Or, just more variety across female performers, so yes to all of them!

Ohh, great idea, thanks!!

That also works — I spent $5 on a headband I'll never wear again for my costume, but $20ish on makeup and stockings I'll definitely use again. Also, I LOVE Halloween and would definitely spend $100 on it if I could, but exactly the way you did it — all or mostly reusable things. What is your costume btw?

Oh, and some light-colored fake nails from CVS or similar could be good claws.

Buy a pair of ears, wear leggings and a shirt that are realistic cat-colors, paint on whiskers, stuff the leg of an old pair of tights with rags or newspaper and pin it. Cat costume!

Pre-made costumes are *always* a ripoff though. The ideal Halloween costume = whatever's in your closet + $5-$15 dollars of extra stuff.

Ok guys — I usually come up with creative Halloween costumes, but this year I'm uninspired, so I am going with flapper bc I already have the perfect dress and necklace. But, I'd like to do some kind of creative spin — any ideas?

Sure, but when the combined extended families = 150, that's a little more difficult. Also, for lots of people, it's important to have at least some of those people included in the ceremony for religious/cultural reasons. Everyone should totally do their thing! Backyard BBQ sounds great! I just don't like the

This right here is exactly why I am terrified of commitment. My lazy, indulgent me-time is *so* important to my sanity.

I'm so, so sorry. I've also lost a too-young friend suddenly and scarily and it was just awful; I was in denial for four solid days before I broke down and cried (and then kept crying for a month).

The thing that motivated me to start going to the gym regularly was a debilitating back injury, 6 months of physical therapy, and my PT telling me if I didn't get a lot stronger, I'd hurt myself again. So...go get strong so your back doesn't kill you! (Is that doing tough love right?)

I too hope everyone has the wedding (or lack thereof) that he/she wants; I think your comment struck a nerve bc your good intentions aside, a lot of people do get judgy about big weddings/traditional weddings etc. And while I totally understand the impetus to push back against cultural mandates — pushing back is a

Some reasons for wanting a big ceremony (no snark intended here): both me/my brother and my sister-in-law/his wife come from big, close but spread out families, and very close we don't get to see often. In large part, their wedding (which was big and medium-fancy — catering and a band, but at her parent's summer
