I can’t answer all that. Vaati’s clip showed them coughing before giving dialogue. My guess is that they eventually are just unable to talk until cured. The balance should be that this takes a while though.

There are two other Japanese mythology and setting inspired games coming out, Nioh 2 and...I wish I could remember the other. They all seemed to be directed to slightly similar taste.
