Unfortunately, I know her family and this is not really surprising news to those that know them. It is a media nugget that people will hopefully use to understand the effects of assault (sexual, mental or physical) are life-long and must be dealt with .

Terrible about Whitney but it explains a great deal. Regrettable that she was not able to get it resolved

How fucking stupid are these servers? You might have been able to get away with that shit twenty-fifteen years ago, but how can they not know now that it will be all over social media in less than an hour if they do it now? Everyone knows to check their receipts for shit like that now everyone is ready to tweet direct

That is some real passive aggressive Chad BS. It’s bad enough I got to check my receipts to make sure I don’t get ripped off by a Colonizer, but now I got to check them for their pettiness.

It being a public facing business staffed by pretty much any kind of human that can tolerate that wage, I’d imagine there are quite a few “aggrieved white people” - you know, racists - working there. So far, lots of evidence stacking up against the null hypothesis.

The Root should pin a calendar like this to the homepage. It’ll never get past zero.

ZERO days without white nonsense.

The only thing you had to do was chill on the racist stuff for a month.

It is this exact reason that when my kids were young that, no, they cannot spend the night over random people’s homes; no, sketchy family members where not able to spend the night at my home; no, we can’t just have the neighborhood babysitter, or some random babysitter to watch the kids; no, I can’t just send my kids

They should be like ninjas and pop up whenever he think hes safe.

He doesn’t deserve the tacos, save them for the workers at that deli.

The quick answer is no. Very few children ever seem to be worth “rocking the boat” or confronting the fact that you have monsters in your family. Life is not SVU. That’s why the idea of the “creepy uncle” who gets invited places but they “try” not to let him alone with the girls is even a thing. It’s so fucking common

You are 100% correct. I wrote that out poorly. I was talking about Can I Be Me? instead of staying on topic.

Her being molested doesn’t impact her dignity nor does it drag her through the mud. She was victimized. Dee Dee Warwick’s lack of dignity comes into play. Dee Dee is being dragged.

Actually, it makes sense looking at her self destructive tendencies and she would have NEVER told. Too much shame, look at the way her family carried on when they thought she was with Robin. They didn’t carry on that much about her addictions but were aghast that she might be gay/bi. Shame kills people and I think

When I saw Can I Be Me? I wondered about this. Wouldn’t she have revealed this stuff if she wanted us to know? I’m not sure what I expected the documentary to be, but I wasn’t expecting the people interviewed to reveal information that was that personal. Will the people who knew her ever allow her to have some

I know some dead people are indifferent to their business becoming public fonder after the fact, but not a single inch of Whitney’s private life feels private at all. What dignity does she have in death? Two documentaries on her, a TV movie directed by her costar, her daughter’s death, then a TV movie about that.

Lawd this just reminded me of Dorothy Dandridge’s story. While her mother was working her mom’s girlfriend would abuse Dorothy & her sister.

It sure does, and it makes me want to cry.

...yeah...actually, that would actually explain quite a bit
