Mark Hamill told the story on Graham Norton how since no-one thought the movie was going to blow up the way it did, he just left the script lying around and let anyone read it. He also said things had changed come Empire for some reason funnily enough.

It was in a period in which revealing clothing was considered an element of feminism, which is also why Star Trek skirts were so short. It’s like how magical girl transformation sequences are both very flowery and very risque.

It’s been a while since I read the novel but the series has been faithful to the PKD’s approach to science fiction. Dick always focussed on a ground-level view of his worlds. His characters are never particularly scientific-literate beyond what they need to know in their day-to-day lives. Read more
