The reason the new Mazda3 is selling poorly is because it is not worth it at all. Getting rid of the IRS and giving it a slower steering rack while doing nothing to increase power has alienated Mazda’s main demographic: people who want a regular car that isn’t infuriatingly bad to drive. Yeah, Mercedes can get away

And that’s just comparing MSRPs. In the real world you can easily get a V6 Kia stinger for $35k or lower.

As far as transverse automatics go, it’s probably the best you can get, aside from a VW DSG, but that’s a DCT.

It has the same engine as the old car, weighs more, and has an inferior suspension design. On top of that, it costs more. I get that the interior and noise levels have been improved significantly, but Mazda is an enthusiast-oriented brand. Their customers want cheap, reliable, zippy fun slow-car-fast cars. The

The reason toyota gets away with keeping it around so long is because it has no real competitors. Maybe a 4-door wrangler, but let’s be honest, a 4-wrangler is less reliable, less comfortable, and in most cases, worse off road. There’s no reason for the average lux buyer to get a RWD-based car, hence why Audi and MB are now both selling FWD

The Alfa 4C is a weird case. Most exotic buyers who want an Italian sports car didn’t like it because it was so small, Spartan, and lacking even basic features like power steering. Enthusiasts would’ve loved it, but it was automatic only. IMO if they had made it with a stick it would be remembered as one of the best

Great. Now drop the 2.5t Skyactiv-G and a manual trans into it, and make it a WRX competitor. They’d sell like hotcakes considering Subaru is half-assing the WRX (it’s on the previous gen Impreza platform and the current Impreza debuted in freaking 2016!) and ford has pulled out of the AWD hot hatch market by dropping
