For all of the criticism Leno got for having "safe" comedy, Fallon makes him look like Doug Stanhope.

I see this differently. To me, it's obvious the genesis was realizing how horrible it was that kids would call each other "faggot" without even knowing what it meant. I think we're supposed to understand that he's being facetious about still being allowed to say it.
