I’ve read those tweets over like 10 times and I feel like missing something. I don’t understand what she’s trying to say. She thinks calling the dressing “oriental” is weird which to me sounds like she is agreeing that it is offensive. I don’t get it. No one was ever calling her “oriental”.

A large chunk of migrants arriving in Europe aren’t Syrians, and aren’t even from a wartorn country in many cases. In the case of Calais, only a minority appear to be from Syria in the first place.

So, they are not refugees. They are economical migrants.

I remember seeing an exhibit on them and recalling that it made clear that there is no “special” context to the Hanfu - it was simply a particular style of dress that evolved at a certain time.
