I was pleasantly surprised that the black percentages were 9% and 11%. Still below the ~14% of the population level, but I’d thought it’d be worse. Once again, Asian and Latinx numbers aren’t reported, and I’m guessing their numbers are proportionally lower.

Punishment is ineffective at stopping black markets (You’ll notice how routinely felons are caught with guns). If domestic production was somehow completely shut down, the remaining demand would just breed a new market for international gun runners. The demand and culture for guns in America ensures that.

That also means that if illegal guns cost $10 million, then people will look to put more on the market. That will lower the price, increasing access to guns. There is an incredible demand for both guns and ammunition in America, market regulation won’t stop that. It will just create black markets.
