I think the confusion partly stems from the fact that diesel engines in commercial vehicles provide fuck engine braking unless they’re fitted with an exhaust brake. Somebody used to driving a petrol car probably wouldn’t have this problem.

Lane-splitting usually involves riding right on the edge of a lane or straddling 2 lanes. People don’t usually ride close to the edge of the lane when not lane-splitting so the other vehicle is likely to be jamming itself into a very small gap.
