Perhaps the most significant and starkest contrast in car development, the VW Beetle was sold alongside the Rabbit in te United States from 1975-1977.   I realize not the same model name, but the Rabbit was definitely the replacement for the Beetle, and a huge change for VW.

I’m genuinely surprised to see the ‘04 F-150/F-150 Heritage didn’t make this list.

Design and sheetmetal were *chefs kiss* perfect, but boy the early ‘00s silver colored plastics and fabrics were cheap and creaky and fell apart quickly. Still loved these things and wanted a Mazdaspeed version so bad. The “smiley” era 3 was technically a better car but the design didn’t match up to the Protege 5.
