It is literally illegal to threaten the President of the United States in the US.

It’s pretty normal in the US for the Secret Service to investigate people who say they want to kill the President or something similar even when it’s on an online message board.

Threats of and/or encouragement of violence are not and have never in modern times been protected free speech, even in the US. Not all speech is harmless, and not all speech deserves to be free of real consequences.
