I loved the hell out of that movie as a kid. “The chalice from the palace has the pellet with the poison, the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.”

Username checks out.

Its a deep Marvel cut, but Damage Control started in the comics as a comedy strip. Almost like an Office before anyone knew it.

You’re calling “The Court Jester” a forgettable movie?!?

My two favorite lines from “Don’t Look Up.”
“Sir” Isherwell to Dr. Mindy”: You’re going to die alone.”
No. Dr. Mindy died at roughly the same time as eight billion other people.

Mom?

That’s the future Victor Von Doom you are disrespecting right there.

I think you may have missed that the movie is a farce.

I enjoy the unspoken joke of a guy who looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger  going through life pretending to be an unassuming software salesman and everyone just buys it.

No. And thing is, you know that.

OP is referring to *Tom*Arnold.  Not Arnold Schwarzenegger

there was also a true lies tv show adaptation literally last year. we could find out, but then someone would have to watch it.

CAMERON’S GREATEST FEAT HERE WAS MAKING TOM ARNOLD SEEM TO BE A LIKEABLE ACTOR WHO COULD CARRY PART OF A MOVIE. HE WAS LEGITIMATELY HILARIOUS IN THIS FILM.I HAVE SEEN HINTS IN RECENT YEARS THAT SUGGEST ARNOLD IS NOT AS AWFUL AS HE WAS TREATED FOR MANY YEARS, BUT HAVE NOT LOOKED INTO THEM FOR VERACITY.

Though the xenophobia hasn’t gone away

The Red Shoes, a Matter of Life and Death, and A Canterbury Tale are my favourites. They are each spectacular in their own very different way.

This might not be the in-depth study it could be, but... a bit of talking and some clips of Powell & Pressberger movies? That’ll be worth it.

Crocodile Rock?

Yeah, I was going to say, William Sadler was the POTUS, he got attacked aboard Air Force One and everything.

The BFI in London had a Powell and Pressburger season last year which had a whole bunch of rare screenings and special events. I only went once as money was tight, but it was a real pleasure seeing Gone to Earth on the big screen. It also inspired me to check out the films I hadn’t seen of theirs and The Small Back
