And despite the spectacle and financial success, Avatar seems like the pinnacle of pop ephemera--here today, gone tomorrow without leaving a cultural mark.

Fail to see how Disney churning out an endless stream of Avatar sequels in hopes of dominating the global box office is any different than what Cameron himself is doing.

“Tweets mean nothing. That’s why I bought the company; tweets don’t matter. No one pays attention to the product of the company I just bought for $44bn. Completely useless.”

Sure his tweets don’t influence anything.

someone totally unrelated to Tesla”? Um dude you own the company.  More the reason Elon doesn't have an interest in running the company anymore.

No shit. I’m on Trulicity, which I’m in love with. The hoops my doctor and I had to jump through to get insurance to cover it was fucking ridiculous. They really don’t want to pay despite the fact I’ve paid my insurance company *plenty* over the last two decades.

Aside from scaling up production, insurance companies really need to just cover the damn thing already for weight loss.

I just saw this yesterday too, and you pretty much nailed my feelings about it as well. It was very pretty to watch, but too long.  Definitely too much of the war and fighting scenes that are obviously there for the effects and not much else.

Finally saw The Way of Water yesterday.

I didn’t watch it but I’m annoyed at a part reported which seems to try to make someone else responsible for Monteith’s relapse which lead to his death. The story from the hairdresser is apparently Monteith started drinking again because a costar “gave him permission” at a party.

I’ve seen several stories like this one which make it sound as though it was obvious the boy had a gun but the school administrators did nothing, but the AP article says the boy’s bag was searched and the gun wasn’t found. If that’s the case, then where did it come from? Was he hiding it under clothes, like a baggy

Re: why wasn’t it confiscated, the AP story says the kid was searched but whoever searched him did not find the gun, which is very odd. How hard is it to search a 6-year-old? Did he have a secret pouch in his backpack?

Dishonored could be so great on film. I hope someone with those connections and money is thinking about that.

Good!

How long before some conservative advocates teachers shooting children in self-defense?

Y U P! the difference of a decade between the first book and the tv series imo.

I was amazed how much agency they gave the characters in the TV series. So many times in the original books, the characters just stood around and things just happened to them. The show took all these moments and turned them around so that the characters chose those moments. It was subtle, but really cool.

I bet the biggest change will be when it gets cancelled before the third season after ending on a cliffhanger.*

I was pleasantly surprised that the blending of the two storylines largely worked in the first season, so count me as optimistic. I adore the Six of Crows duology and thought they handled the characters well.
