I was frustrated yesterday morning when they held us at Vail pass for 30 min while they did avalanche control blasting. Kept us from getting first chair, but the powder was still magical all day long. I wonder how much worse this could have been if they didn’t do all of the blasting throughout the day?

Nice shots! Is that by Sunset Point heading up I-17?

Given the popularity of “overland” camping vehicles, I’ll bet somebody could do a good business buying MTVRs and putting luxury cabins on the back...

Thank you Andrew for doing a critical review! I feel like Jalopnik (as well as other blogs and most car mags) is too afraid to piss off a car maker and hurt their access to future vehicles. Most reviewers still cough up a headline like “I had fun in a Nissan Sentra for a day” even when the body of the article (or

I bought a Focus RS. I intentionally avoided the first model year and bought a 2017. Still got caught in the head gasket debacle because it took them almost two years to figure out what the problem was :-/

Just to be clear, is your beast toy running mud tires on a racetrack, or are you talking about an off-road application? Because no matter how hard you push off-road, you will never come close to the cooling challenge of going 10/10 on a track.

A few years ago my response would have been “yeah but how long can the Tesla keep it up?” I remember being really disappointed that the Model S couldn’t even do one hot lap of VIR without going into limp mode.

Best looking “hatch” (shooting brake?) ever

I scrolled down a long long way and didn’t see either of these. That makes me a little sad...

I love my RS and the engine is one of its high points. But for $180K I would expect a more special engine...

I’m assuming this is more your style?

I actually thought the facilities were pretty good. There aren’t that many racetracks that have physical garages in pit lane, visitors centers and year-round grandstands...

I hope this means we get some big series’ returning there. It would be great to see Weathertech Sports Car again...

I prefer the section through Jerome up Mingus Mtn. The Oak Creek Canyon section is beautiful, but it’s too busy with RVs and old folks to be fun.

Yeah it better go faster than that. 25 years ago the F1 did 240 with the rev limiter removed. This thing looks like a teardrop and has 1.5x the horsepower.

Hey Tom,

Pretty soon Formula Drift will follow Formula 1’s example and mandate them across the field...

This sounds like rather than people getting away with making big, cheap changes to speed, they’ll have to look for performance gains in tiny, incremental (and extremely time-intensive and expensive) cheats, like what we see in F1.”

Yeah I thought that was a type-o and then I thought hmmm, it’s ultra light and clamshell fenders can’t be very aerodynamic. Maybe that is correct?

Could also be people who learned to drive in Mexico and now live in El Paso. The city is over 80% Latino.
