Yep, agree with all this. I think this writer does her own version of race-baiting articles, i.e. finding some race angle in EVERYTHING possible (as those seem to be the only thing her writing brief is about).

Many countries in the Caribbean already became Republics many years before Barbados, so I don’t know why people keep referring to that event as some big big deal (or perhaps writers should do basic research?)

The second part of your reply negates the first part, and makes my point, especially as most Americans, including I’m sure the writers on this site consider the word “America” to be synonymous with the USA and nothing else.

All that applies to people like Christian Bale, Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds, Keanu Reeves, Hugh Jackman, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber etc.  Never heard anyone calling them America’s whatever.
