Hang on now. You do not need a PhD to be a scientist. If he were calling himself “Dr. Bill Nye”, sure that would be a problem, but you technically don’t even need an undergraduate degree to be a scientist. A scientist, by definition, is someone learned in science and usually performs studies to advance the field. 

Not to downplay the exploit here or the lack of transparency about the issue from Wyze itself but if you aren’t exposing your Wyze cameras outside your network, you’re fine.  If you are, you shouldn’t.

They haven’t sold the V1 for almost 4 years now, it was released in October 2017 and quickly replaced by the V2. So no one “just” bought a V1. The V2 was released in February 2018 and they still sell a black version of it. V3 was released around December 2020.
