Two extremely intelligent, successful, and articulate women? I am in!! The fact that they are gorgeous is icing on the cake. What I most admire, though, is that they are very intelligent. Not just smart, but intelligent and strong.

Exactly. Some types of people just attract more attention; she isn’t wrong to state this fact.

I love that she looks her age! Her skin has texture and lines and character and it’s so beautiful. She hasn’t had so much work done that she looks plastic like so many other aging actresses.

And what’s the last shot of the film? Nomi going to Hollywood. God knows what Esterhasz and Verhoven thought that meant, but I imagine when you watch it now it feels like the set-up for a vigilante movie.

For a second I was. Then I thought it out. To not acknowledge that she looks a certain way would be disingenuous. I’d rather her not be coy. She also said she, hailed as a huge sex symbol, found a way to pretend to be sexy, to be sexy, and had body image issues. She’s not bragging, just stating facts.

I’m pretty sure people who work in that type of industry hear every little “problem” someone thinks they have with their bodies constantly.

Yep. She’s someone I wondered about for a while, given her personality. I’m sure the “difficulty” came from the mere notion that perhaps Stone might not be interested in playing along.

Years ago I read an interview with Sharon Stone where she said something like “some days I feel great, and some days I stay in bed all day because I just can’t face the world.” It seems ridiculous, maybe, but it was revelatory to me at the time.

The best part about Showgirls is when Nomi Malone realizes just what a fucked-up world she’s getting into and then she goes and kicks the shit out of the rock star who raped and beat her friend before hightailing it out of town.

She was just talking about men chasing her coz of her looks. ..not denying that non gorgeous women get harassed too. ..

Verhoeven and especially Joe Eszterhas were exploitive jerks. Showgirls alone should be all you need to know about them as people.

It’s amazing how nothing like this surprises me anymore.

Sharon Stone is also certifiably brilliant—like Mensa member smart. She was basically walking, talking, reading and hailing cabs from the womb. So bringing that level of brainpower into a swamp of fetid, basically-but-no-more-than functional men running everything? Nuclear fusion.

One Sharon Stone story I do remember. Remember that iconic scene in Basic Instinct when she uncrosses her legs to show the cops she’s not wearing underwear? She was apparently tricked into doing it.

She was always stunning, and is still stunning, and a large part of that is because she wasn’t shamed into thinking she needed to jack her face up with surgery.

Now playing

Just to add this great moment from right-wing media. Milo mistook an article from a satire site for actual news. Breitbart then apparently repeated his claims.

Call it Sweater On Sweater and I’m in :)

I want a Sharon Stone-Jane Fonda “Actors on Actors” interview, like, yesterday.

COWAN: Seriously? You did?
