The SS failed because when did you ever see an ad for it? 99% of the population has no idea it existed in the first place because Chevy never made an attempt to tell them it existed. If Chevy had made some level of an ad campaign to accompany the SS it might have actually sold in respectable numbers.

I wish people would stop saying “no one bought them.” They bought as many as GM would ship. It wasn’t marketed. It wasn’t special looking (though it was understated beauty with excellent proportions). And yet, even with that, they sold every one they made. Yes, I know there are a few left on dealer lots, however, it’s

The thing that bugs me most right now about car commercials is that every single one gets the automatic emergency braking wrong. Sure, it’ll stop you, but you won’t look back to see your kid unphased, still sipping on his juice. I’ve actually tested the system in a closed environment, and let me tell you, your kid

Apparently old motorhomes on mountain roads can stop on a dime... it sure caught this Camry driver by surprise:

What needs to die is the idea that collision avoidance is there so you can be a complete moron. My favorite is the Camry or Civic commercial where a Winnebago brakes and somehow the car driver manages to get into a situation where collision avoidance kicks in. WHAT MORON CAN’T OUT-BRAKE A WINNEBAGO?!?

Not going to happen. They are station wagons that older people don’t have to grunt to get in and out of.

Nope, but Buick is going to deliver one.

The car ad trope that really grinds my gears is when they show some idiot behind the wheel (or sometimes it’s a pedestrian) who clearly isn’t paying enough attention to the road, only to have the car intervene and save everyone.

You know, you can avoid a car crash on a fun, twisty mountain road by driving the car. That’s it. There’s no trick beyond that. Stay in control of the car that you, the driver, have been put in control of, and you’re not going to crash.

Let’s not get carried away here.

uh...

Yep, I was afraid of this. He got hit by Cupid’s Alero.

And if you decide it’s still a good idea (it’s not), at least look up-stage to see if there’s a car coming.

Someone tried to once; it didn’t end well.

Why do you say that? The 3800V6 and the 4T60-E transmission are pretty much bullet proof. In the Northeast here there are still lots of 80s and 90s GM cars on the roads using some variation of this drivetrain. Also, parts are easy to find and are dirt cheap.

In fact, that is exactly what I did this morning....

Fire up the Buick Reatta, it’s time to start your work week anew!
