Someone asked which personality disorders it could be, I guessed that it might be one of those two. I didn't say that all persons with borderline personality disorder are abusive, I didn't even say this one was, but as someone who has had intimate experience with a person living with BPD as well as working experience

Let's be real: I was surprised this post wasn't ABOUT Rebecca.

It sucks and it happens. I've corrected it and thanked the person who first pointed it out. I'm happy to do more, if you have any ideas for me, but I'm unwilling to kill or bleed over it. That's my limit.

My Dad has worked in the management ranks of the financial sector for most of my life. He retired last year because it was too much for him. Just far too much at his age. He had a lot of money to spend and no time to spend it. What was the point of earning if he couldn't enjoy it?

Yeah I agree. I mean, of course women in developing countries will agree to be surrogates because they really really need the money, but for wealthier couples to take advantage of that is horrible. There's too much of a weird power dynamic

There is no "honoring the wishes of the parents" because the fetus is in YOUR body. That means you have control over the decision to abort or not. However, if you're 100% against abortion, then deciding to be a surrogate is a really dumb idea unless you're willing to raise the kid.

You act as if there is not a huge power differential between the couple, who are wealthy enough to hire a surrogate and a young, poor, uneducated woman in a country that lacks a lot of regulation. It's highly unlikely she was told beforehand that an abortion might be requested. It's really gross and colonialist on

....you realize that the whole point of surrogate is because you want a baby, correct? And you realize the parents never even bothered to get in direct contact with their surrogate? The only assholes here are the "parents."

It's still her body. Every woman has the right to choose whether or not she gets that medical procedure done on her own body, even if the fetus is not biologically related to her. For her, she believed abortion was a sin, and she didn't want that procedure performed on her. That's her right as a person.

I feel like in general, if you become a parent so badly you resort to surrogacy, you should be best to be prepared to have a kid with a "catastrophic birth defect." It's hugely ableist to abort a kid purely because they have Down Syndrome.

I feel like, if you are looking into surrogacy, you should make it clear in the contract before inserting fertilized eggs that you have no interest in raising any potential disabled children, so that the surrogate knows going into it that she might have to abort, keep the disabled child, or give it up for adoption.

The sad thing is, it is almost impossible. There is too much behind it all and too many heavy things and too many people with an agenda for that to be possible. The only hope is if we somehow get each individual family to teach these things and these historical truths within the home, at least that's my opinion on it,

There is so much we are not taught. I forgot to include the bureaucratic genocide in the 1790s that robbed so many of the knowledge of their blood heritage. Some African Americans have no idea they are also Native American since the ledgers were changed to remove any trace of Native Americans. If we can't come to

In which Donald Duck reads the part where Hitler writes on the ultimate aims of Zionism and becomes a Palestinian sympathizer.

(if you come at it the right way, Mein Kampf almost looks prophetic for today's situation in Israel. IF.)

This makes me want to bust out my keffiyeh in solidarity with Aladdin and Jasmine. And Bart & Lisa!

Israel:

what i take from these comments, is that somehow democrats and gen x are to blame for the housing bubble?!! try predatory lending, deregulation, and the wonderful folks on wall street. oh...and a general lack of accountability and character.

Boomers were coercing the entire nation, then world, into that bubble. You probably weren't old enough to remember the deregulation, shady yet legal advertising, guilting, and pressuring the bank and loan industry did to get everyone to take out loans that were too big and no one could afford. Then refinancing

The first 10 years of Gen X (my) generation we had Vietnam, Watergate, the height of the Cold War being taught to hide under our desks, the fear of Three Mile Island and nuclear winter, the first big oil embargo and energy shortage, disco, and the Iran hostage crisis.
