“Though the event was ostensibly about games, it was impossible to ignore the recent upheaval surrounding the French publisher.”
On paper I really like what this is doing. Amassing an army of randos with unique skills is the only way to actually do permadeath in this kind of game, and I like the concept of getting randomly generated missions to keep you always with little things to do. It takes the curated busywork and adds just enough…
at this point I wish they’d just make “Rainbow Assassins: Watch Far Dogs Cry” or something, so they can just blend everything together and be done with it.
little sad about beyond good and evil 2. didnt expect it this year, but its one where the ambition and scope really make you worry about somebody deciding its too risky and axing it. so i kind of like seeing it out in the open and not blinking once to indicate a hostage situation. then again a need to go back and…
I’m still waiting for the Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs crossover that none of us will be surprised by.
I don’t know how to answer this. Which is weird. I never looked at Horizon is a depressing game, but I guess technically it should/could be viewed that way. I just thought the story was awesome how they were able to explain how things got to how they are and it actually make sense and be believable. I guess Horizon…
It does not at all. Horizon does have some bummer moments, but they're not on the same level and it's filled more with feelings of wonder and adventure.
I keep saying it, but the lack of empathy displayed from a lot of people is troubling and shows that the game clearly went over their head. Or it didn’t go over their head, in which case I don’t really want to be in the same room as them, because that’s a little scary.
I think that’s just kind of the nature of the game. I agree; I liked all the things she disliked. But also I can see why it would be a lot for some people. Because even though I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was still a lot.
Calling this game torture porn or a misery simulator is deliberately reductive. Getting very tired of these “The Last of Us 2 is just a game that tries to tell you violence is bad” takes. If that’s the case, Mad Max Fury Road is just a car chase movie. Get Out is just a “racists are bad” movie. Parasite is just a“class…
“This would be great if it wasn’t what it actually is” seems to me an overly elaborate rationalization of trying and failing to like something because everyone else is talking about it.
I’m coming up on a birthday later this month and the older I get, the more the entire month of July becomes a reflection on making the…
i think it’s totally fine for people to primarily seek games that offer escapism. i love those too. for me, though, i also crave games that disorient and fuck with the player, especially when they’re giant AAA titles like this (or Death Stranding last year, for instance). after playing these things for so long, it’s…
Why would I want to try to escape reality into an objectively worse one.
Nothing wrong with escapism, but I hope video games can do better than just escapism. This game literally made me cry over a number of points, it was definitely not “KILL DOGS LOL.”
I love it. I agree that some of the major themes (violence begets violence) lose some of their impact when the game is about killing tons of people, but if you can forgive a video game for being a video game, you’ll find a great tragedy and monumental character journey.
I don’t think this really tells us anything new, to be honest. Consoles almost always launch during the holiday season to capitalize on kids asking for them for Christmas. PS4 launched on November 15th, Xbox One on the 22nd. The PS3 launched on the 11th, the 360 on the 22nd (albeit different years). The Wii launched…
Ugh thank you Jason!
Naw, they just are delayed because of normal video game industry stuff (and COVID) and they are known for attempting to polish as much as they can.
What did Jason do?
