My point was more that, apps (even paid) can be dropped from the marketplace if the dev decides to stop maintaining it, then the only copy remains the one on your device, or if you have the apk somewhere (for android at least).

Thing is, paid apps can become deprecated some time after we buy them, defeating the purpose of buying them while on the fence. The dev can stop supporting them, and they eventually get dropped
