Good regular customers make everything else worth it. I've worked in lots of food service positions and the horrible customers are hard to remember, but the great ones stand out years later.

I am a parent, I have two children. I take my children to eat at restaurants on occasion. If you are a waiter or waitress you can guarantee a great tip by interacting with my children. If you write them off as just kids or ignore them, you can guarantee there will not be any tip.
