Considering that a male protagonist in a video game is likely played by one of a handful of actors that have been doing voices for decades,I agree that women protagonists to often be a refreshing change for sure.

I usually choose female. I find Male MC are all boring and the same, often using too many one liners and such. I end up eyerolling into a comma.

It’s “amazing” how all the concerns for historical accuracy always arise when a video game allows us to play as either a minority or a female.
