Man, the shot of the shadowy figure looking back at the camera as it drives past, subtly turning to stay *absolutely locked on* to the viewer… it's so simple, but it's stayed with me for a lot longer than the rest of the movie.

The Weakerthans' entry is surprising, given Josh's inclinations elsewhere in this series. I guess it's difficult to keep too many bands like them, or Clem Snide, etc. in your heart at the same time.

I'd like to put in a special mention to the insane gabber remix of Vampire Killer found in Contra: Hard Corps for the Sega Genesis. A much better demonstration of the Genesis' sound chops IMHO:

All the missing classic rock staples etc. are like, fine. But purging Sunset Rubdown? I'm dizzy. I'm going to be sick.

“Don’t confuse luck with any sort of elevated view of yourself. You were in the right place at the right time and did a lot of hard work, but a lot of people do hard work. It worked for you, be grateful, and don’t think too much of yourself.”

100% agreed! Steinman excels at dizzying, self-propelling rock operatics, and "Tonight" pushes even further than usual to truly delirious heights. It's SO much fun.

Some snippets of New England-region jingles that will be in my brain until I die:

Any name that tumbles out of the guys in Superego could definitely make it onto this list. Ranch Coughblood in particular has a majesty to it.

Dr. Stephen Poop, the finest character in SNL history.

The Rural Alberta Advantage's debut album is insanely delightful. That's all I have to say.

The most inspired music cue I've ever heard at Fenway was at Pedro Martinez's number retirement ceremony last year. Pedro (#45) threw the first pitch out to Jason Varitek (#33), so they played the opening piano bit from LCD Soundsystem's 45:33.

If you were to tell me the N section had mention of a band with busy bass guitar parts and mosh pits most active in the late 80s-early 90s, I would have bet substantial money on Nomeansno long before Ned's Atomic Dustbin would've even crossed my mind. (Both good bands, though!)

Grizzly Adams DID have a beard.

I love the tracking of Rhea's high school music lineage. I thought for sure I was the only one who still remembered Common Rider!

The Mae Shi! HLLLYH is such an insane little triumph of an album, I wish it was more well-known

Midlake's The Trials of Van Occupanther is an absolute classic. Nothing reminds me of late autumn in New England quite like it.

Undocumented protip: (letters in parens) will be interpreted as triplets.

Any shortcomings of Bill Nye the Science Guy are forgiven by the fact that they made a music video parody of Morrissey's "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" and somehow made it work: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
