I don’t disagree with that, and will certainly concede, at least, that this is the primary function of a spoiler (so far as I understand it, as a layman). I just mean to suggest there may be some flow deflection as well - though not enough to violently detach airflow.

But a NASCAR spoiler does make downforce afaik.
