Model releases require an exchange of value in order to be valid - so she would have gotten paid, in whatever form the payment was made (it does not need to be money). This payment would apply to any and all future use of the images (beyond the original magazine publication), unless there was a clause stating

Assuming she signed a standard model release (since the photos were originally shot for magazine publication), I don’t see what she has to complain about (as she would already have given permission).
