On a more serious note: Thank you for building this house. It had been a long time since I last felt like I had a place to go and muck about on the internet (that wasn’t the busy, downtown streets of Facebook or Twitter).

Well I hope so. I’ll give it a chance I guess since I have no choice. I just dig the community that goes on here and I don’t really have an opinion on whether Iphones are better than Androids so that makes me disqualified from Gizmodo.

A year and two months ago, Annalee Newitz was the woman brave enough to look at some drivel I had written about Marvel superheroes and go “Hey, maybe there’s something not objectively awful about this.”*

I can’t imagine reading io9 and now Gizmodo without Annalee Newitz. I’m crying, and will be absolutely devastated if Charlie Jane Anders writes her post as she too heads into the black.

But...but...but...!

Do you like the new silent update feature on the implant? Sorry about the weird bug where your arms aren’t compatible with your face anymore.

Thank you so much for being one of the awesome voices in this community! We will always have twitter ...

Thanks for all you’ve done here. I was one of the early readers and stayed the whole time (after a while I didn’t even notice the implant anymore).

This makes me so sad. io9 is easily my favorite Gawker blog and easily in the top 3 total. I wondered if this move was in the works as it seems Giz has been posting a lot of things I thought were much more io9-ish, but I’m so sad that you’re not going to be a part of that. I’ve loved your writing and the online

I’ll miss you Annalee but I still don’t like this merger with Gizmodo.

As much as I hate that io9 is becoming part of Gizmodo (and I really really hate this) I hate the fact you’re leaving us even more. io9 is my internet home, and your leadership is the primary reason for it. And as much as I love CJA and the remaining writers, it’s going to be less fun around these parts.

I can’t even comprehend this. Annalee, you are fantastic in every single way. I’ve been here since nearly the beginning and to watch how much this place has flourished under you, Charlie Jane and all the other talented writers is nothing short of amazing.

Knock them dead and may the odds be ever in your favor
:P

Bye Annalee! Hope the new job goes well! We will miss you. Be sure to tell Charlie and James and the others how terrible it is so they don’t get any ideas.

Farewell Annalee, and thank you. For creating io9, for curating a selection voices I make it my business to seek out on a daily basis, for fostering an environment of (relatively) civil discussion on an internet that is regularly awful.

Good luck with your writing!
