Yes. It came so close to being another sad story of a woman murdered by her ex. I'm so thankful that she was able to escape.

Wait, how does this work? How do you know the car is okay if you buy online?

If it's prolonged and intrusive (guy won't leave her alone), then I think getting in there and asking the girl if she's okay is a good, non-threatening solution. I'm a woman and when I do that, the harrasser generally slinks away quietly.

Yes, the term was coined when he wrote an article about that movie.

Right. I'm weak as hell and I can do 2 pullups. I know many, many women much stronger than me who can do more.

Yeah. I hate it when commenters will tear down female celebrities or say that they "just don't like her".

As far as I can tell, Heigl's biggest crime was being hard to work with and criticizing some of the writers and films she was in.

Because she's a pretty and successful actress, and we get obsessed by them and then hate them. Actors don't get backlash like actresses do, even if they are assholes, wifebeaters or drug addicts.

From the article:

I see the problem as promoting perfection as the only acceptable state for a woman, not that praising perfection is bad.

Jezebel posts about gorgeous female celebrities constantly (Lupita, Jennifer, Beyonce, etc.), we've never had an issue with men admiring beautiful women.

...This is ridiculous. Does this mean as a 4th generation Asian immigrant, I can only eat food from my country of origin? God help me if I ever move to the middle country, guess I'll have to starve then.

You are far more likely to get white people complain if the people serving them "ethnic" food aren't appropriately ethnic. White people hate it when their sushi/dimsum/etc. is served to them by white servers at a restaurant populated by white people.

Yeah, Japanese American here and I always tried to do dishes and clean stuff at my friends' places whenever I came over. Funny thing is that I'm actually pretty lazy and rude by Japanese standards so my parents would always be on my case, but parents and grownups loved me.

I very rarely speak with my mom and it has made my life much better. It's more common than you think and it doesn't make you a bad person.

Actually, one of the reasons I adored UP was because they had the little boy be Japanese American and it wasn't a plot point or a huge deal. I saw how they animated him and I thought he was Asian, but then I saw the name of the voice actor and I was so happy. It is seriously one of the only times I can think of that

I dunno why, but I talk to kids in a Serious Voice (way more formal than with adults), but I turn into a pile of mush and spout babytalk when I talk to dogs.

I was worried at first since I hate stories about people being meanspirited to each other. But seriously, everyone here got caught by their own assholery. Well done!

Yep. They tried to parody that kind of movie, but ended up making one that fits even more perfectly in the mold. I loved The Lego Movie, but it definitely had issues with how it depicted women, which kept me from completely loving it.

Oh god yes. Also when bugs eat holes in leaves, it fucking creeps me out. Lots of little holes. :((((
