People only like the Last Jedi because it has an after school level message that fits their ideology. The movie is on the same level as the prequels, and will be viewed as such in the near future. (not counting visuals, its much better than the prequels there)

No one would be responding smugly or dickisly to him if he actually took just a few sentences to explain why TLJ wouldn’t be on a list of his favourite films of the year.

There is no way Blade Runner 2049 should have been omitted from this list.

You could make an argument that Blade Runner 2049, Thor: Ragnarok or Wonder Woman should all be ahead of The Last Jedi.

I don’t really get why critics are giving it such a pass either. Even if it doesn’t bother you that it drops the established mysteries from the last movie it’s still a messy movie whose tone is all over the place.
