So what you’re saying is that there will be a point at which I’m driving ONLY 30 year-old cars.

Also I saw no info on whether people were wearing a helmet or not.
More collisions, vehicle injuries and traffic fatalities in lower income areas generally. That accident rates for pedestrians and cyclists are higher as well shouldn’t be surprising.
At night it is just a fact that darker people are harder to see.
From my observations in Manhattan:
There have to be some sort of extenuating circumstances in this data and I tend to agree the recreation vs need to travel is probably a big factor. Even as a pedestrian, having the luxury of time and a nice neighborhood to pick your route is quite a different experience from negotiating traffic in congested districts…
Yup, ^^^^this. Wealthier (perhaps “whiter”) lifestyle cyclists can pick and choose their (often less dense) routes, while those cycling to/from jobs (inner city, often less white) do not have that luxury. Cabs incentivized to shorten a paying fare’s transit time makes them esp. dangerous, so more urban danger.
I was thinking it was wealth issues with something simplier.
The disparity isn’t surprising in light of other wealth disparities. Wealthier folks are more likely to be cycling for recreation than basic transport. When you are cycling for recreation, you can choose routes that are pleasant to ride on (and likely safer). When you are riding for basic transport, you may find…
We need to be careful with our terminology. Toe clips (and straps) (Pull back to get out of, and can get hung up on shoes with treaded soles, which is what appears to have happened to President Biden):
Seriously, there’s no point to saying “claimed” because you can watch it and see exactly that happen in the video.
As someone who still rides clips and straps I’ll tell you right now that running shoes are THE WORST to get out of with. The tread often has these cuts to aid flexibility that are just PERFECT to catch the…
That’s happened to me. My left foot is the one I put on the ground, and then I shift my weight to the right for balance. Except one time the left shoe refused to disengage (that’s one way to find out your cleats are way too worn, for sure) from the pedal, so I unclipped from the right side, put my foot down, but still…
Pretty sure you just outed yourself as someone that has never ridden a bike with clips or clipless pedals.
Not to mention that that’s a fairly large bike; you’d either have to be extremely tall or have a tremendous amount of balance to just sit on one.
Pssst, that’s entire modern world. You need to get out more often.
Conservatives are using high fuel prices as a proxy for every failure they see in the Biden administration, arguing that we could get prices lower by cozying up to Russia and/or giving Big Oil a break on making any progress. I don’t know if that’s true in the short term, it probably is, but Guterres has put very…
I came close to hitting someone on the highway about 20 years ago and it really freaked me out. I was driving 75-80 on an interstate during a time of very low traffic, crested a hill, and saw two dudes walking towards traffic in the lane I was driving in. I saw them soon enough to slow down and change lanes, but it…
Economists have predicted seven of the last three recessions.
I’m not making two stops, so I need an all-in-one bondage/sports supply shop.
On auto delinquencies - a quick google found recent articles saying “delinquencies rising”, “delinquencies steady” and “delinquencies may be lower than reported” so... I guess
