In an article about position of hand relative to phone why no actual pictures of the positions discussed? Same goes for sex positions BTW.

Definitely. I think there are certain things that are so inherently British that when you try to adapt them tonally for American audiences - even when you keep things like the overall setting the same - that it just falls flat.
A BBC show with the same terrible special effects as Tom Baker era Dr. Who, no less! Which was actually kind of appropriate if you think about it because Adams was one of the scriptwriters on Dr. Who in that period.
Amazing how the Hitchhiker’s Guide movie was so bad that the BBC TV version made decades before for a pittance in comparison ran circles around it.
This was my thought process.
Sorry, but isn’t spoon-hurling associated with The Room? RHPS has toast-hurling, rice, water pistol squirting, etc.
It may be your dad was more hip that you knew and was making a truly dad joke.
Eerily, Meat Loaf wrote this at the end of a piece he wrote for Rolling Stone on Steinman’s death: I don’t want to die, but I may die this year because of Jim. I’m always with him and he’s right here with me now. I’ve always been with Jim and Jim has always been with me.
This may be callous, but I can’t help but think about how he died less than a year after his platonic life partner, Steinman.
Holy shit Meat Loaf is gone!?!?! I have this really fond story my dad would tell me, about driving through town and seeing a bar advertising meat loaf and hot tuna. He thought it was literal food, he didn't know it was the band Meat Loaf and Hot Tuna. Fun times. Farewell good sir! Your album covers remain the…
The book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls makes this point about her and several other famous directors’ female collaborators whom they cast aside, but this is by far the strongest and most memorable example.
When I was mixed up with him (see my above post) I was surprised at how open he was about his downfall. He would actually bring it up in conversation. I remember mentioning to him one time that I really love Hal Ashby’s “The Last Detail.” Bogdanovich said, “Yeah. That’s a great movie. They actually offered it to me,…
As other’s have pointed out, the Karina Longworth series on her from her “You Must Remember This” podcast is pretty great. There’s a book about her production design coming out in the next month or so.
Because it was something she aspired to do and clearly had the talent and vision to do and it would have been great to see what she could have done in that role, which is, of course, the most significant role in the film making process.
Polly Platt wasn’t just responsible for much of the success of Bogdanovich’s early films, she’s one of the most important production designers in Hollywood history. Along with a handful of others in the late ‘60s, early ‘70s (Richard Sylbert, Dean Tavoularis, Mike Haller, a few others), she helped perform a total…
I definitely put down Easy Riders, Raging Bulls with the strong implication that Polly Platt was responsible for at least half of his success.
Holy Shit
“tremendous success” is somewhat qualified, as she never stepped into the director’s chair due to many complex factors. A a sad missed opportunity for her and us.
If you get a chance, listen to Katrina Longworth’s ‘You Must Remember This’ podcast series about his first wife, Polly Platt, who worked with him closely on his first three movies (‘...Picture Show’, ‘What’s Up Doc?’, ‘Paper Moon’), received very little credit at the time, ended their professional relationship after…
He could have been the kind of director his ego thought he was if he had kept his dick in his pants for a minute and not been an utter asshole to Polly Platt. Reading his obit was like stepping back in time and seeing a long list of blown opportunities. But he also went through hell when his girlfriend was murdered…
