Jimmy Buffett at the Lee Civic Center was the first concert I ever saw. The internet tells me it happened November 23, 1983, two months after the release of “One Particular Harbour”. By that point I had spent countless hours listening to his earlier records.

You have to put yourself in Kennedy and Iger’s position in 2012 and honestly evaluate the state of Star Wars at that moment. I can’t fault them for the overall direction they decided to take. They HAD to do a soft reset. They had to shutter the old Expanded Universe.

Soo ahh .. when is giz and/or the other properties here gonna start posting (and promoting if they already are) on some of the other sites that are out there as replacements for Twitter? Spoutible, Bluesky, Threads, Mastadon at the very least. Lets get this Xodus (pun intended) moving!

That’s true. It’s just exhausting having to mentally jump through all the retcon hoops just to get to a state of not despising the story we were initially given. The Clone Wars has barely, BARELY, made the Prequels tolerable. Even so, I can’t engage with a Prequel without the crushing knowledge of how it made every

From what I can tell Warhammer is mostly Moorcock mixed with bits of Herbert and Lovecraft. And apart from Lovecraft, neither of those other writers are remotely Fascist. Herbert was at most Fascist-curious, but hated tyranny in any form, while Moorcock had his Eternal Champion fighting literal Nazis in the Von Bek

Yeah, Warhammer/Dredd’s lore grew out of antifascist counterculture in the UK, if anything.

People were stupid enough to vote for a broke orange blob with the IQ of a rock that claims to be rich and a stable genius.

Wrong. The child could be adorable.

I’m pretty sure Warhammer at least started out as a parody of these kinds of novels. Same thing as Judge Dredd -- if you know the context, you understand where the creators are coming from. If you don’t, you’re liable to see it as a straight-up Fascist endorsement.

There’s always been a pretty big right-wing element in military SF and pre-1980s space opera, especially the Jerry Pournelle-type stuff, and I think a lot of those attitudes went into the classic EU because you had some of the same kinds of authors writing Star Wars novels, including  Zahn (easy money in those days

The seeds of it go all the way back to Heir to the Empire and its depiction of Borsk Fey’lya but it doesn’t go full mask off until New Jedi Order.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that said cryptofascist turn — and I think it is a turn, since the retcon largely occurs pretty late in the Legends canon -- happened around 2000 or so!

Legends canon is essentially cryptofascist in it’s depiction of the fall of the NR that culminated in the Yuuzhan Vong War. The big reveal in that plot was that Thrawn and Palpatine had some knowledge of the Vong and everything the empire did was in preparation for the apocolyptic invasion they knew was coming. At

Fuck you.

I haven’t deleted my account, but I’ve deleted the app and have no plans on going back. If it is possible for an app to feel... “gross”, Twitter definitely is in the running. Was never the biggest fan but can’t say I miss it AT ALL.

At this point, my Twitter account is for eating popcorn and watching everything fall apart.

Getting blue check vibes from this comment

Indidvudal states (like Illinois) are gonna sue the fuck out of X over this stupidity, and I can’t be happier

I feel like Musk is missing the key factor needed in an “everything” app - people need to be using it. With him at the helm, Twitter has been hemorrhaging users. Doesn’t matter how much your app does if the only people who use it are right wing trolls and nazis.
