Leaving Oldman’s politics/personal life aside, the problem with his performance to me was that John Lithgow’s portrayal of Churchill in The Crown was much, much better.

But he’s a lock to win and it’s not like he’s the first person to win an Oscar for a body of work rather than for an individual performance.

I’ve been to both Volt and Range (my SIL lives near DC). I really liked Volt, but was underwhelmed by Range. But we were there shortly after it opened, so maybe it was just early hiccups.

I’ve also been to Girl and the Goat and Perilla. But my absolute favorite Top Chef restaurant is Mabel Gray, which is run by James

And also, Harry looks a lot like Prince Philip, at least to my eye.

This was my favorite episode of the season — I even liked Philip, and I never like Philip. I am, however, very bitter that we did not get to see Philip, the Queen Mum, and Tommy Lascelles getting drunk together.

The universe’s Chanukah present to me this week is that three of my library holds came in, so I can spend my days off reading The Power, The King Is Always Above the People, and Sing, Unburied, Sing.

Ma’am Darling is on my list but who knows when I will get to it. I think Princess Margaret was a fascinating woman and oddly, from what I’ve read, very close to her sister even though they had wildly different personalities.

I am really hoping the attempted kidnapping of Anne comes up next season, because I am dying to see that scene. “Get out of the car!” “I bloody will not!”

My theory is that without the 22nd, we would have had three Reagan terms followed by three Clinton terms, and probably bypassed the Bushes entirely for someone like McCain after Clinton. I think it’s a net win.

Yeah, the polls have been all over the place and a lot of it is because they’re having trouble modeling turnout — it’s just not like any other special election so you can’t rely on the fact that it will have similar turnout to those in the past.

I don’t think he’s actually touching her either. That doesn’t make it a lot better — I still think he should be censured at the very least — but I can’t really call it groping. Harassment, yes.

I honestly would be surprised if even the GOP senators voted to expel him based on a single incident (if there are others then that may change things). A lot of them are probably worried about incidents from their own pasts coming up, and they’re not going to want to set the precedent of expulsion except for a pattern

The vibe I get from the Spacey thing in particular is that people were just dying for an excuse to kick him to the curb. And so as soon as someone was willing to go public, everyone dropped him like a hot potato. It doesn’t sound like he was particularly well-liked by really anyone.

House of Cards is on its last legs creatively anyway (I couldn’t finish season five and wouldn’t have watched season six at all). But Robin Wright’s Claire is indeed the best thing about it.

That is, however, what John Kelly is thinking as he futilely attempts to wrestle the president’s phone away from him.

Interesting — I thought this was the weakest episode of the season, but overall this was in my opinion the show’s strongest season. The second episode and the next-to-last are maybe the best episodes of the whole show.

I agree, when I rewatched I was really impressed at how consistent it was.

I don’t think Clinton kept any family members from going to jail. He pardoned his brother, but he had already served his whole sentence years earlier.

I’m surprised he didn’t bring up his “historic” electoral college margin.

Bojack is never in a good place, and I am also worried about Diane. But I’m curious to see if Mr. Peanut Butter’s political campaign is half as crazy as what we’ve been enduring for the last two years.

My mother based her vote on abortion, and from the way she talks about it I think she believes Hillary was personally going to maternity wards to smother newborns on a regular basis.
