As many problems as I and others have with Elizabeth Wurtzel, she often puts things really well, as in her memoir More Now Again when she says that running into a smarmy acquaintance while she was in early sobriety made her realize the importance of good manners. Because you don’t know what remark that seems teasing

Bitey Biter is our 1.5 year old. Perfect Tommy is our baby. We got Tommy so that The Biter wouldn’t be so lonely. They love each other so much.

This is my big fat fatty Brock. His likes include: clean laundry, dry food, getting pet and purring or imagining getting pet and purring. Dislikes include: the Roomba, being on a diet and people who won’t pet him.

This. When people say they want you to be genuine, what they almost always mean is that they want you to make your fake, cheerful, socially-sanctioned self more believable. No one beyond your closest family and friends (and sometimes not even them!) cares about your real self.

Eh, sometimes you’re talking about people who don’t actively like you, but also don’t actively dislike you. I know a bunch of women in my social circle who are absolutely overwhelming with all their gushing compliments and “Oh my god, we have to get together soon!” bullshit, but they don’t even have my phone number

I’ve been struggling so much with this lately. I’ve been dealing with a really stressful and frustrating interpersonal problem, and while I know no one enjoys being around negativity, it’s amazing how relentlessly positive (and dismissive) some of my close friends have been. One actually told me that if I had been

I totally feel you on that. If you want a total stranger on the internet’s opinion, just let her go and go through your grieving without her lingering on your periphery. Down the road maybe you’ll be ready to be friends without constantly hoping for something more, but for now, bake brownies, watch some comforting

Yuup, people have been aghast that I haven’t seen it for years now.

Phil Hartman and James Gandolfini were two actors whose loss affected me viscerally. I’ve been sad in an abstract way about the loss of many actors but those two were just different.

If you haven’t seen the original 1st season of American Horror Story (known as “Murder House” season) I HIGHLY recommend it. So scary but also poignant. But you’ve probably seen it. Anyone who hasn’t PLEASE WATCH IT IT IS GREAT!

This.

Gotta be The Wire! You won’t regret it.

I find Will Ferrell unfunny but would go to this bar.

Congrats!

The Wire. Wait, no, The Sopranos. No, The Wire. Sopranos. It’s going to have to be both. Then Twin Peaks.

I LOVE the Wire, but I would actually suggest Twin Peaks first. 1) It’s GREAT fall viewing, 2) It’s spooky, which is perfect for October, 3) the 90s fashion are back and you will be inspired, 4) the re-boot comes out next Winter, so you’ll be all caught up.

i watched the Sopranos for the first time ever last year

THE WIRE

I want to start watching a new TV show. What do I do, y’all? I’ve narrowed it down to three that people always tell me I need to see—The Wire, Twin Peaks, and The Sopranos.

The woooooooooooooooooorst!!!! Those people are basically saying “I’m a giant dickwad! I LOOOOOOOOVE that about myself because I have a steamer trunk full of issues! And I can use Keeping it Real, Just Being Honest, Saying what everyone thinks! As their toolbox.
