Maybe they want to go lay in bed and watch netflix, or plug their laptop into the tv, or sit outside and read on their laptop, or maybe move it to the garage for some music…

It's not at all strange that you still had the same IP after a weekend. Usually only some major work on their side, a new modem, or having your modem go down at JUUUUUST the right time will get you a new IP.

I myself am a lubuntu kinda guy, but I hear ya..

They use DHCP but the leases are pretty long. You don't have a static IP (they charge quite a bit for that), but it's not something that churns over every time you reboot the modem.
