The first car I had that had outside temperature read pretty close for about 5 minutes, they it would read 122 deg F regardless if it was -10 or 100 deg F. Looking it up, they had the probe under the hood near the cowl and the airflow from the engine blew across it.

So, according to the weather channel, your car’s temperature sensor is inaccurate because it’s reading the temperature near the surface of the road instead of the ambient temperature, and that may be dangerous because the road might be icier than expected due to the …. temperature of the road?
