Seems like a self-exacerbating situation—safety standards need to improve to protect from all of other the vehicles that keep getting safer (i.e., taller and heavier).

Given that the whole thing makes no sense, it’s a bit premature to start villainizing her. If it ends up being recklessness or negligence, then sure, there’s no punishment too harsh for her.

If she was texting or on her phone and oblivious, then anger is justified. If she was blacked out because of something medical, then it’s more sorrow on top of sorrow.

In the end, both cause the other. Visibility should be as important as crash survivability. Unfortunately, crash ratings are only concerned about the latter, and give zero shits about the former.

Can we just appreciate for a second how awesome the wheels are on the crash test machine?!
