The CARB cert is kind of big thing, though. Number one, the hurdles to jump through (and the money) to get something certified. Two, with that cert in mind, I could mod the car to blow pure oxygen, and still fail for not having the CARB stamp on xx part. Three, not restricted to gearheads, but again with the cert,

1. Find a friend/family member in (whatever registration friendly state)

Not just the Delica owners, but ALL owners of non-US imports should be behind sinking this. The responses from the state pretty much say anything that wasn’t manufactured to US crash standards will be in the crosshairs soon, perhaps even the ones that were ‘federalized’.

The truly shit part of this is that these weren’t vehicles that were registered “by mistake”, as Ms. Cook contends...it’s that these were vehicles that WERE legitimately registered at the time, and now the legislature has after the fact changed the law to define them as off-road vehicles so BMV can yank the rug out

alternate option: price out the selling prices of trailers at your destination, and purchase prices on new & used in both locations. with all the charges they add to moving trucks, especially 1 way, it may work out cheaper to buy a trailer for the move, and sell it later, especially if you already have something

no Cavalier?

having cracked one of the now-unobtainable flat taillights on my bug while push starting it...i may have an idea of the feeling.

i’ll just leave this here:

the fact that one of the nissan dealers here also sells hyundai is a red flag.

seconded, as a rider AND the owner of an old beetle.

steelies can look good, or they can look like the hubcap fell off. lots of honda and toyota stuff are particularly ugly, NEEDING to be covered up. surprisingly, chevy has put some decent looking 5 spoke steelies on the malibu (and maybe others) in the past. those on the jimny look not too far off of some of the stuff

have to give the star for the “PT Loser” nickname, as we call it the same thing.  also agreed it’s not a bad price for SOMEONE, but that someone sure isn’t me (or you, evidently).

i’ll give you mechanically interesting.  wouldn’t NP it at anything above like...$15 though.  just so much meh that the mechanically interesting can’t outweigh.

no, the SSR is still worse :|

honestly, they’re all kinds of brazen in some areas.

hertz is just a huge pain in the ass, and not too long pre-pandemic, when one of the cars was in the shop due to an accident, we actually declined the rental car and made do without because it would’ve meant dealing with hertz.

Surprised no one’s mentioned it yet, but towing it to the dealer is but one of three options....there’s also having it serviced in place (how many Ford dealers will?) but of bigger note is the “or following the provided instructions” option, which likely amount to “tighten the damn nuts”.

only ran into that situation once, coming back from the coast...her 250 in the bed, my 500 on a harbor freight trailer...45 in 3rd was all it could do coming up the 7% cuesta grade on Hwy 101 (though slightly bigger tires without regearing haven’t helped things).

yikes. yeah, no cruise in either of my piles either. the truck was one of those “10 at this price”, with the only option being A/C. didn’t even have a tape deck, radio only, though i remedied that 2 weeks in.
