Jesus. Does Lee here owe you money or something?
This is what happens when you eat too many Ls.
Jameis Winston standing there by himself trying to look hard after none of his teammates made the slightest effort to hold him back—when it was damn clear to everyone that’s what he wanted—is a goddamned Christmas miracle.
I’ve gone to concerts by myself when nobody else has wanted to go. What’s the alternative - missing out? No thanks.
I went to a concert alone last year. Everyone around me had dates or a group of friends. Some looked at me weird (I had planned to take one of my daughters, but both were away at camps that day), but the woman right next to me, who looked like she was on an uncomfortable date, could not stop saying how awesome it was…
One of my favorite moments as a solo diner was when I went to Ina Pinkney’s now -closed Ina’s in Chicago and she was at the front sitting down and asked “How many?” I said “Just one” and she smiled and said something like “There’s no ‘just’ about it. We’re glad you’re here”. I never say “just one” anymore.
Diners are practically built for people eating alone. You can pretend to be a cross-country truck driver, or a spy!
Seriously! It was when I was a teen too, so I took it pretty personally haha. Now I might just laugh in their face.
I think we figured out why they were solo!
Solo diners are in and out fast, don’t have any gameplay going on with date that drags forever, and need a lot less attention. Fill up their water, take the order, serve, leave check after seeing if they want a refill or dessert (they generally won’t).
It sounds like your sister has some kind of social phobia about eating out by yourself. She probably thinks that if she eats out alone, people will judge her and think that she doesn’t have a boyfriend or any friends at all. As a result she has a hard time enjoying life because she is afraid of what other people think…
Another former server checking in. Yes, solo diners are treated the same as any other diner: if they seem chatty, I chat; if not, I refill drinks, bring takeaway containers, and check on their bread situation as silently as I can.
My favorite solo regular was a truck driver. Wes would come in, eat dinner, and at the…
It’s a small thing, but I really prefer “How many?” so I can reply confidently “Just me!”
Diners are perfect for this... So is any fast food, I do get the weird feeling of being alone at a sit down dinner or a reservation sort of dinner by yourself. I have done it though. I was at a seminar in Vegas, and while the rest of the others are doing their debauchery, no one would come to eat at a fine eating…
Apropos of nothing...
As a former waiter, I can confirm that solo diners are often a pleasure to serve. They usually know what they want, or are curious about the menu/drinks and want to ask about them. They are usually quicker, yes, but also require less legwork while they’re there. Even if they send something back or change their mind,…
I do wish the host would not ask “Just one?”
God, I miss eating alone... I’m usually so much happier doing everything on my own- movies, shows, dinner. I have no idea why anyone thinks its weird.
