I’m white and I don’t get why other white folks are up in arms over Spike’s comments. They were actually pretty measured and historically accurate. There’s no reasonable way to interpret them as threatening or hostile, IMO. I honestly don’t get it.

I think his argument will be that he was charitably giving them money to buy tickets to go home to Nigeria....which they did.  Its the same kind of argument that Trump will and has made:  I was helping people out and now I am being persecuted for it!

I don’t know if it would have inflated his salary, but it would definitely have increased his celebrity status and his career prospects.

I dunno, Kate.  I live in Chicago and have watched their rise in popularity over the last several years, but to me Old Fashioned’s are Amaretto Stone Sours for bros and bro-ette’s in their late 20's and 30's.  The only decent one I’ve ever had was at Violet Hour.  I’ll stick with scotch (Delilah’s, Fountainhead, etc.)…

Not on this one. They victimize the poor and powerless because they think they have no recourse and can get away with it. They’re not stupid enough to do it to people of means.

My guess is that the Nigerian brothers are cooperating witnesses who have entered into some sort of deal with local prosecutors.  Put another way:  they will be testifying against Jussie.

I know a lot of the folks in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office. They are responsible for prosecution, have tons of women and people of color in their ranks, and are led by Kim Foxx. Foxx recused herself for some reason, but her staff isn’t going to allow anything to move forward if it smells as bad as this…

You’re missing the obvious - people like this give Toobin, Borger, Bash, Burnett, etc. someone to holler at on air. I’ve seen that segment many times and its a nice, sem-satiisfying proxy.

Do you really not understand the danger in this approach in general? We may not like the way a significant portion of this country and culture are headed, but burying them isn’t likely to change that.  In fact, it feeds their “victim” mentality and the narrative that spawned them in the first place.

That’s like 1% of the population, and less than 1% of that group is capable of violent crime.  There are plenty of racists in Chicago, but that’s not a stat you should use to support the argument.
