But only 6 of them are up for re-election in 2018.... That’s still confusing for me. Are they really willing to screw over all of their congress critters just to potentially protect 6 seats?

Lolwut? Talk to me when the church leaves its business outside of my politics, uterus, bedroom, public schools, courthouse, workplace........
The Church wants to be involved in all aspects of people’s lives - therefore every aspect of people’s business belongs in Church.
Then the Church needs to stop taking people’s money if it doesn’t want to listen to people.
Be honest. You get a sick thrill from being roasted in comments sections, don’t you?
The church brings it in by ‘welcoming, encouraging, demanding’ participation from birth and then rejecting their committed members based on one aspect of their lives.
One theory I’ve heard is that they’re intentionally making this thing awful so that it can fail and they can move on once and for all, because they have no clue what to do and it’s derailed their entire agenda.
What a weird comment.
This was exactly the right place. On the first Sunday of each month, Mormon congregations set aside an hour of their Sunday services for open-mic “Fast and Testimony Meeting,” which usually consists of everything but testimonies: travelogues, political rants, “God helped me find my key!” stories, unintelligible…
I think they think that if they don’t do something that they can sell as repealing ACA they will get primaried by even rightier rightists and lose because their base is increasingly angry, isolated, and purist in its inclinations. Which is a terrible and cowardly and awfully short-term reason to do something that will…
Sen. Murphy is on fire wth this speech! I recommend peeping at the entire excerpt. A bunch of the New England Senators are really acquiring themselves very well under our new world order. The Resistance is strong with them.
Fun fact: My last name is hyphenated, has been my whole life, has been on all school and medical records, I honestly think my first driver’s license had it, and it was/is something I never hesitate to correct people on when they try to just use one of my last names on shit. 100% my legal name. Or so I thought. Then…
If you ask my real name, I’ll give you the name I use every day. That’s my real name. As a transperson, it’s my name. And I would have told you the same thing before I got it legally changed. This is my real name. My legal name is (or at least, was) a completely different question.
Also, plenty of people have stage names, so even if she made it up, who cares? I know it probably matters for the defamation suit, but really why even print this crap in the first place.
It is ironic that her mom caved to pressure to give her a more “normal” name, probably so that she would have more options in life, when it turns out Rebel went into a profession where eccentricity is a boon and her normal name is now damaging her career.
It just sounds like she was raised around eccentric people and that she’s a little eccentric herself (isn’t half of Hollywood?), still love the Rebz. And if her mom called her Rebel and everyone knew her as Rebel... who really cares what’s on her birth certificate?
Thank you for sharing that! It’s so important that people know that this place does not represent residential treatment any more than conversion “therapy” represents psychology.
This... doesn’t really feel like the appropriate response. I was sent away as a teen to a wilderness therapy program and then emotional growth boarding school, and it saved my life. I was deeply depressed and had started dealing with suicidal ideation. My panic attacks had gotten so out of control that being in school…
The Austin-American Statesman spoke to Sarah’s mother, who confirmed Sarah was sent away, but strongly denied it was for being gay: “It has nothing to do with her sexuality.” She said Sarah would be “heartbroken” if she knew she was “being misrepresented in this way.”
This girl is extremely lucky that she’s got a fair few awesome family members, especially a cousin who is willing to use his celebrity to help her however he can. Everyone here who isn’t this girl’s parents seem to be completely awesome and wonderful people.
