I barely remember Wierd Science, just the scene where they keep enhancing the size of the breasts on the computer, and Kelly Le Brock stepping out of the smoke.  I don't even remember Paxton being in that movie.

The TV series does well as a complement to the book.  Season 1 matches fairly closely to Game of Thrones, while Season 2 has done more streamlining compared to Clash of Kings, with more cutting out of characters and scenes that were probably necessary due to budget and time constraints.
