If a book can't make you forget about your marital issues or other unhappiness in your life, then what the fuck is the point of reading it? The best books could make you forget that your house is on fire.

After having had several long conversations with the latter group in recent weeks it’s clear they’re just somewhat smarter and more manipulative than the former. They want to claim to argue from a base of respectability but still portray transwomen as rapists and transmen as victims of misogyny.

My guesses:

Pssh, Star Trek didn’t get consistently good writing until, well still not yet actually. There’s a lot of ham-handed silliness in TNG and DS9 (sometimes even in great episodes); people just remember the high points.
