The best youth sports coach I had as a kid had a talk he gave to all the players and all the parents at the beginning of every season starting in about 4th grade, regardless of what level or what sport. The basic theme was, “We’re not here to win. We’re here to have fun. But winning is more fun than losing.”

The medical records thing is a choice we’ve made. We, as a society, have decided that we’re willing to forgo potentially lifesaving technology improvements in the name of privacy.

Don’t forget about eliminating the fiduciary rule for investment advisors! Bob the “investment advisor” isn’t going to be able to make his boat payment if he isn’t allowed to rip off people’s pensions!

I feel like tempering chocolate and the various meats are pretty conventional sous vide applications. I’d like to see something that’s really out there. Like baking. Can you sous vide a cookie? Brownies? A cake?

This could really use a more authoritative citation.

I feel like that’s appropriate, though. Most reunions aren’t really that interesting. You hang out with a bunch of people you have a tenuous connection to, some of them drink too much, some of them try to hook up, mostly they’re just normal people, and it’s just another night out like any other. The average person

I don’t know about that. There’s a pretty narrow range of stuff your old acquaintances are asking about when they ask what you’ve been up to. Job, marriage, kids, where you’re living, major health events, that’s about it. Until fairly recently, most of the interesting stuff in my life didn’t fit into any of those

Ehh, they’re not so bad. When I was 23, my typical “going out” night was going to a bar with a few people I knew and a whole bunch of strangers. Reunion was going out to a bar with a few people I knew and a whole bunch of people I kind of knew. It’s still just a bar full of a bunch of 23 year olds, but it’s basically

Can you explain this “invite” thing to me? I’m about to head to my 15 year, but the only thing close to an invite was a post on a facebook group and a request to spread the word.

I was the nerd in high school (head of the math team), but I generally got along with people, and, in retrospect, was a bit of an asshole, too. It’s almost like people are complex.

It’s like the American owners took over and said, “OK, what do we need to do to get to the Championship this year?”

Fact check: coloring books are actually a pain in the ass to read. My 2 year old picks a bedtime book every night, and when he picks a coloring book, it’s THE WORST.

Shouldn’t we expect optimal strategies to change as the norms around what substances athletes use change?

From what I can tell, though, all these writers from all over the country decided to move to NYC (or a couple of other cities, I know Drew is DC-based). I think one of the major disconnects between me/everyone I know and Trump voters is that the people I know moved long distances for a better life, while the Trump

Does Deadspin have a plan in this regard? I know you’re not the editor, but I’d imagine that if you got up at a staff meeting and said, “you know what we need around here? Fewer highly educated urban elites, and more people from the demographics that voted for Trump,” they’d listen to you.

“Work during school to pay tuition” isn’t necessarily a great idea. It basically comes down to two things: go to a cheap school, and work a lot while you’re there.

I’ve only ever used paper poll books and paper ballots, but I’ve lived my entire life in the technological backwaters of Middlesex County, MA and San Francisco, CA. It seems to work fine.

I live in San Francisco, where I had 42 yes/no questions on my ballot. Even though I went in with a sheet full of how I wanted to vote, it still took me 5 minutes to fill out my ballot. I can only imagine how long it will take the average actually-need-to-read-the-question-on-the-ballot voter to cast a ballot

I use credit karma. It’s free, but I do need to proactively log into the site each month.

I’d add many “legitimate” financial advisors to the list.
