this is the type of pace that is alienating to casual fans

2030s sounds way earlier than I’d have thought for a commercial fusion reactor.

The “trash” parts of a lot of veggies are good for stock. Carrot peels, celery bases and leaves, outer onion layers (not the totally-paper part, but the next layer in), etc. Stay away from potato peels, though, they can impart some pretty bitter flavors. (And strain all that junk out before using it.)

I’d argue that NFL contracts aren’t really fixed term contracts.

Also, the chance to continue getting paid next year!

This kind of contract is pretty similar to the at-will employment contracts that are fairly typical for highly-paid employees outside of unionized industries. If a company hires, say, a VP, he’ll have all kinds of retention bonuses in his contract, but if he underperforms, the company can fire him before he collects

The impact on hotels and restaurants will be negligible. It’s not like there’s some thriving “stadium district” that people hit up on their way to the game. People get to the Coliseum in one of two ways: they drive to the parking lot right next to the stadium (totally bypassing local businesses) or they take the train

Man, I feel gross even attempting to explain Trump, but let’s put this in perspective. When he’s talking about “locker room culture” he’s not talking about the locker room of a well-run professional sports organization. He’s talking about the last locker room most of us had any meaningful interaction in: high school

I’m curious about how rent control affects this. The numbers Smart Asset covers are for units on the open market, but a huge fraction of SF residents (not sure if it’s a majority, but it seems close) pay significantly less than that because they’ve been in place for a while and are covered by rent control (or they’re

I’ve noticed a handful of baseball and golf broadcasts showing the action in a corner of the screen during commercial breaks. It seems like that’s bound to creep into soccer at some point.

“And don’t you dare try to watch a game on your phone unless you’re on Verizon!”

This post is 4 years old. Still time for more stupidity this year.

Am I the only one who just doesn’t get why critics fawn over Mad Max? I mean, sure, the practical and special effects were great, but the pacing was atrocious (and the “breast milk is gross!” theme was pretty stupid, too.)

I just figured he was subtweeting the NYT politics coverage. He still seems pretty bitter about how he was treated there.

It’s incredibly obvious that a person who didn’t get into all eight ivies would have more useful essay advice than one who did?

For some kids on the margin, the essay might make a difference, but it’s one of the the most subjective parts of the application process. If you got into all 8 ivies, you probably have stellar grades, test scores, and resume items (awards, etc). I doubt the essay was the difference for him.

Isn’t this more like a Nascar team cutting its driver/crew chief/crew and hiring a rival’s? Fans root for/competitions are organized around players more than teams; teams are mostly there to connect competitors to sponsors. Switches like this happen with high profile motorsports teams every year.

Has any team ever been relegated in their domestic league the same season they were playing in the Champions (or even Europa) League?

The “diversify” thing really hits home for me. About 10 years ago, a bank flagged me for suspicious activity and froze my account while they investigated. 36 hours later it was all cleared up, but in the meantime I was in a pretty big panic. Ever since then I’ve had accounts at at least two banks, so that if there’s a

These protests are getting out of hand.
