This contemporary discussion is revealing the confederate flag for what it always has been—an open sore on the face of a long-dying racist position that white people are better, more worthy, superior and should be in control of black people. That’s the whole thing.

To me, the point of removing the flag is to benefit the victims of racism. I imagine it would help relieve some stress to not have the highest authorities in your state flaunt a symbol of your oppression.
