It doesn’t really matter what they’re shooting for, they’re going to have to deal with local, state and federal agencies, and it’s going to be easiest to test, certify and regulate on large standardized roads with lots and lots of predictable traffic.

You’re supposed to leave enough room in front of you to come to a complete stop. Claiming that the red light is the root cause when it’s actually the distracted driver doesn’t make much sense.

I don’t doubt the dangers of distracted driving, so we’re in agreement here.

There’s no need to tie the hands of a judge. All that does is screw over people too poor to get a good lawyer or are otherwise caught in a weird situation, and let those who can pay get off without punishment.

It’s a really common attitude here. You’re like the third person at the very least to “suggest” that only people who own a manual be allowed to drive. We get the spirit in which you’re trying to post, so don’t be a coward and pretend you meant something else.

Uh, wow dude. I shouldn’t have to “stop and walk out of range” of a jammer if I need to access emergency services. That’s fucking stupid, and it will get someone killed.

Passengers and the ability to call 9/11?

So long as the phone can record the difference between a delayed send and a live send, that seems fine to me.

You can pick more than one category.

Yeah, no. Blocking legitimate signals is a huge no-no for emergency reasons.

We get it, you think you’re special because you drive a stick shift.

Increasing liability and discovery is perfectly fine, but this idea that we need to have insane mandatory punishments isn’t a good idea. Look to the war on drugs.

I’m willing to bet that it’s going to be more of a situation where the boring freeway/heavy traffic stuff is automated, while the “last mile”/rural road type stuff is left to the driver.

Christ, car fans need to build a bridge and get over this shit. For many reasons, people choose not to drive a stick shift. Maybe they’re lazy, maybe they have a bunch of stop and go traffic, maybe they have arthritis.

If you want a manual, please be my guest. This near constant IT MUST BE A MANUAL OTHERWISE YOU’RE

One other thing: we need to stop treating this as a “just those stupid kidz and their facebook machines” problem. Don’t let up on them, mind you, but I see way too many adults with phones to their ears or texting that we need to start yelling at folks who should be old enough to know better.

This isn’t the way to go, especially when you have passengers in the car who are perfectly safe using their phones. The passenger in my car usually gets the duty of watching Google Maps, for instance.

Yeah, removing safety features that help people avoid crashes in inclement weather or at night makes so much sense!

In reading the survey, they state under the “Other unsettling findings include” section:

Do you realize how many older people use their phones while driving? This just isn’t a teenage thing.

Sorry we like fun I guess.

Don’t forget that Uber is illegal as fuck in a lot of areas!
