I definitely want to watch that scene with Dylan and Norma again now, after your comment. Except for some reason the The Returned is being repeated, instead of a second showing of Bates.

I didn't necessarily read it as the show backpeddling, just either that Caleb experienced it all very differently or else that he's lying to himself in order to make peace with what happened. It wouldn't surprise me at all to that he might not see it as rape (or is just plainly in denial), but she absolutely does.
They've really ramped up the incest-a-go-go themes. It sort of feels like we've missed a step or two. We missed the build-up of Norman becoming increasingly dependent on Norma and regularly sleeping in her bed. Here's hoping we get some summertime flashbacks.
I'd be pretty happy if they just called it Ripley. Barring that, I like @disqus_HmE7OlEBVG:disqus's suggestion of just calling it Alien.
But wait - there's more! SPOILERS FOR BOOKS TWO AND THREE.

I agree, but for some reason am planning on checking out the show anyway. For one thing, how much worse can it possibly be? For another, I already know the twist and so won't be traumatized by it.
It's just a blanket "no" to anything that would give this story the sort of signature quirk and/or loveable/unique characters that Twin Peaks is known for.
I hope AV Club coverage continues, even though we are now Toddless.
Bate's Motel intentionally riffs on the Twin Peaks-ish quirky/mysterious small town pretty heavily - I think Carlton Cuse mentioned being inspired by Twin Peaks. There was also Happy Town (name?), which had a similar vibe.
I read the first half of the first book, but I am not a fan of the author's writing style and skimmed the rest so I could find out the ending. I also skimmed books 2 & 3. I actually think this is one of those situations where the adaptation has the potential to be better than the original novel(s).
Seriously, depending on how faithfully they adapt the books, any comparisons should start and finish at: small town with mysteries/secrets and a few quirky characters.
I think there was a diner (but it may have been a bar? - only important for the character that works there) but no pie centric plot points and no characters obsessed with it either.
I skimmed the Wayward Pines book series for work-related reasons. Comparisons to Twin Peaks should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Yeah the season has been mostly meh, but with a healthy handful of good stuff scattered around. I've been under the impression they've been trying to tie up loose ends most of this year, but then they got renewed so who knows what is going on.
What did you think? I thought it was much better than last week and I always like Charlie, but I've been underwhelmed with the mid-season entries so far.
The Claire stuff made me think that at the end of the show, maybe Claire could be Castiel's new host - but I guess that right now he has the perfect situation with Jimmy's body where he is no longer interrupting/interfering with a vessel's life.

It's only playing for one week apparently: http://cornergasthemovie.com/
Did you ever see Dan for Mayor, Fred Ewanuick was pretty good in that as well, but it only got two seasons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_for_Mayor
