Natural selection may favor those smaller, slower, or weaker because they can hide from those that would harm them, move slower so their movements don’t draw attention to predators,…

Evolution has a heavy dose of luck, and you can’t assume because an individual animal survived it was more fit than some other individual animal. The logic applies more to populations over time.

Or, maybe we can recognize that America is not a land where “anything is possible,” thanks to how previous generations have repeatedly fucked over segments of this country. Maybe we could, instead, try to fix the problems of the past so that every single citizen has an equal opportunity to succeed.

Evolution is based on who got lucky genetic mutations. Humans are not the strongest or fastest animals by a long shot. And while there’s an argument that perhaps we’re the smartest, Douglas Adams put that shit to sleep a long time ago (in less than a full paragraph, I might add).

Nah, bud. Evolution is largely luck. If it were always down to stronger, faster, smarter, there probably wouldn’t be such a thing as mammals over 20 lbs. Evolution doesn’t proceed from good to better to best based on a value system. Success also has a large luck component.

The difference, of course, is that in nature, every animal starts out with the same opportunities. With humans, through no fault of the individual, the individual can find themselves born into a position where achievement just isn’t possible.

Umm...that’s not necessarily true. Luck and good timing has almost as much to do with which species survive and which go extinct as which are better.

Except in nature, the stronger, faster, smarter animals survive.
