I saw commercial for the Durango Hellcat that said, “Forget everything you know about performance SUVs!” So I did. And it was a load off my mind.

Sounds like a bunch of mad scalpers, boomers, NIMBYs, and pavement princes reminding us that they have problems too. But if these guys are making a big deal out of this, it sounds like 0-60 in 3.5 seconds from an SUV won’t make them happy, therefore it’s likely that nothing will.

Problem with the S2000 comparison is price. The 2000 Model Year S2000 was around $32000, which is over $50,000 in today’s money. That’s a Mustang Mach1 price. Maybe because it weighs 300 lbs more (2022VW GTI curb weight 3154 lbs), which chews the livin’ Hell out of that “extra powerful” 13 freakin’ horsepower. The torque number is significant, but a lot of people prefer the handling of a lightweight, rear wheel drive sports car to a nose-heavy, FWD box.

To the comment section: If you want this to live, buy it new MFs. Don’t do it dirty like every other car that you claim to want, only buy used, and are shocked gets cancelled.

This is potentially excellent news. Obviously the devil is in the details. But as an owner of an early integra back in the day i will always have a soft spot for that car. 90s Honda was best Honda. 

Hopefully in the near future we’ll have batteries that can go 1000 miles per charge and fill up in 5 minutes from renewable sources. By then losing some aerodynamic effieciency won’t be a big deal. Range anxiety will be gone, and it’s not like EVs need to hit fleet CAFE standards. I think automakers will jump at the…

It’s an odd thing you don’t really see anymore.
